About us

Tatso Ya Rona was launched in South Africa in 2005, and has aligned itself with the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Zero Hunger, Good Health & Well Being, Quality Education & Partnerships. Our key focus is linking good nutrition with education.

Our Mission

Tatso Ya Rona's mission is to provide food and aid to communities in need, while empowering those communities to become self-sufficient in the long term. This mission underscores our commitment to addressing hunger and malnutrition through various initiatives, including meal distribution and support for sustainable development

Our Vision

Tatso ya Rona's vision is focused on "Ending Hunger in our Lifetime." The organization seeks to make a substantial difference in the fight against hunger through strategic initiatives, which include providing meals to children at Early Childhood Development Centres (ECDs), launching sustainable farming projects, and offering disaster relief efforts. Our strategy emphasizes the elimination of hunger one meal at a time, highlighting the critical roles of nutrition and education in addressing child hunger in Loopeng Village.

SUCCESSFUL STORIES

Mira excels in School with Daily Nutritious Meals

In Madibeng Village, five-year-old Mira attends Boleng Primary School, where she is excited to learn and play with friends. Living in a rural area, her family relies on agriculture, but inconsistent rainfall has made it difficult for her mother to provide enough food due to health issues. To ensure Mira receives nutritious meals, her mother enrolled her in Boleng Primary, where local organizations offer meals rich in essential vitamins and minerals. Mira loves the food, which has improved her health and energy. She shares, “I want to go to school, play with my friends, and have delicious meals. I will study very well to be a teacher in the future.” The school cook remembers Mira’s first day, noting how small and timid she seemed compared to her peers. Thanks to the nutritious meals, concerns about food insecurity have eased, creating a supportive environment for the children. Mrs Kgotlhang, the principal, emphasizes the program's success, stating, “Many children faced malnourishment, but the nutritious meals have significantly decreased the malnutrition rate.” Mira's regular attendance and enthusiasm for learning reflect the positive impact of this initiative on her bright future.

Nutritious Food Supports Sharmaine’s Family in hardship

In Madibeng Village, Kebotsemang, a mother of three, faced significant challenges due to her family's unstable income and the risk of flooding in their community. Her husband works as a tricycle driver, but his earnings are inconsistent, making it difficult for the family to meet their daily needs, especially when floods damage their home.To address their nutritional needs, Kebotsemang received meals from Tatso Ya Rona. These meals are vital for the family, particularly during times of crisis when access to food is disrupted. Pastor Itumeleng, the coordinator for Born Again Care Ministries, has observed the positive impact of these meals on local children. He notes that the meals help combat malnutrition and aid recovery from illness, leading to weight gain and increased energy levels among the children. Adults consuming the meals have also experienced similar benefits. The pastor of Kebotsemang's church, remarks that she appears “livelier” since receiving the meals, reflecting the positive changes in her life. Kebotsemang is dedicated to providing a strong and healthy future for her children, stating, “I want to take good care of my children so they will grow up strong and healthy.” The support from Tatso Ya Rona and its partners is crucial for families like Kebotsemang’s, particularly during crises. Their efforts to provide food assistance help ensure long-term food security and improve the well-being of children and families in need.

Place of Hope: A Community Garden Initiative

Tatso Ya Rona has created a community garden in Madibeng that significantly addresses local hunger and provides fresh produce for children. This initiative enhances the nutritional intake of the children and generates income to sustain the ecd's operations, demonstrating the effectiveness of local solutions to combat food insecurity. Children at the early learning centres actively participate in planting and harvesting a variety of vegetables and fruits, learning valuable skills about agriculture and healthy eating. The introduction of fresh produce has improved the health of many children who previously faced malnutrition, as the centre can now provide balanced meals essential for their growth. The surplus produce is sold at local markets, allowing the centre to reinvest in its programs and ensuring financial sustainability. This initiative is supported by Tatso Ya Rona, which helps improve nutrition, support education, and foster community resilience through partnerships with local organizations. The Place of Hope Garden serves as a source of food, income, and community collaboration, creating a culture of shared responsibility for the well-being of the next generation. It empowers children with confidence and purpose as they contribute to the health and future of their peers and families.

Investing in Education: School Uniform Initiative Empowering

In Madibeng Village, Tatso Ya Rona led a school uniform donation movement to provide essential uniforms, shoes, and supplies to underprivileged children. This initiative addressed the immediate needs of children and encourages community participation through fundraising events. The movement focused on the impact of school uniforms on children's education, as many are unable to attend school due to the lack of proper uniforms. By providing complete uniform packages, including shirts, trousers or skirts, shoes, socks, and basic school supplies, Tatso Ya Rona helped remove barriers to education and allowed children to focus on their studies. Tatso Ya Rona collaborated with local schools and community leaders to identify children in need, ensuring that the most vulnerable receive support. Through the school uniform donation movement, the organization made a significant difference in the lives of children in Madibeng Village. By fostering community involvement and addressing the barriers to education, we are investing in the futures of these children and creating a brighter tomorrow for the next generation.
